In the Exceptional Setting of Piazza Unità d’Italia A unique exhibition will allow you to admire original fossils and remains of the great giants of the Ice Age.
The exhibition – set up from August 28 to September 9, 2023, in the spaces of the Region in Piazza Unità d’Italia in Trieste in the Sala delle Colonne – is made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Municipality of Trieste and the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region. It opens a window into a vanished time, incredibly connected to our own, showcasing the life, ecosystems, and evolution of the protagonists of that era: the great mammals and the first humans. The absolute star of the exhibition is the original skeleton of a Mammut (3 meters tall and 5 meters long) that visitors can admire from all angles, affectionately nicknamed Otto . This is a “Mammuthus primigenius,” a cold-climate animal that roamed across Europe and Siberia during the Ice Age. One of Otto’s encounter with humans. unique features is the evidence of its encounter with humans.Accompanying Otto are other large mammals such as a woolly rhinoceros, a steppe bison, and a giant deer. On Saturday, September 2, and Sunday, September 3, Otto will move directly to Piazza Unità as a guest of “Trieste Maker Faire”. After the exhibition ends, Otto will likely travel to other destinations. “Ice Age – The Giants of the Ice Age” is an event promoted by the Municipality of Trieste and the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, in collaboration with Zoic srl, the Natural History Museum of Trieste,ICTP-International Center for Theoretical Physics, PromoTurismo FVG,Discover Trieste Convention andVisitor Bureau,SC ISS for Adult Cognitive and Intellectual Disabilities of Asugi.
