When science and logistics meet, even a giant from the past can cross the Atlantic safely.
This was evidenced by the recent operational success that saw Zoic and Rhenus Logistics working side by side to ship a 65-million-plus-year-old Triceratops skull from Trieste, Italy to a prestigious gallery in Dallas, Texas. An artifact weighing 318 kg and of significant size(80×120×185 cm) restored in our laboratories and ready for a new exhibition life in the United States.

A collaboration that enhances the scientific heritage

The expedition, commissioned by Zoic and managed by Rhenus, reaffirms how integral modern logistics are to the preservation and dissemination of cultural and scientific heritage.
After a meticulous restoration carried out by Zoic on the artifact from the Hell Creek Formation (Montana), planning began for the overseas trip.

International transport of original fossils requires:

  • physical protection of the exhibit
  • Strict management of customs regulations and documentation
  • Business continuity at every stage of the transfer

And it is in this balance between scientific expertise and logistical precision that the value of our partnership is born.

From laboratory to final destination: an integrated journey

For the Triceratops shipment, Zoic designed custom packaging with advanced shockproof systems developed to protect the three-dimensionality of the skull during all handling.
Rhenus then coordinated the entire logistics chain: pickup at Zoic, road transport to Milan Malpensa, international cargo flight, and delivery to the Dallas gallery.

“When it comes to cultural heritage, logistics takes on a strategic role.
We are not simply moving an object, but protecting a scientific and historical heritage.”
Paola Calloni, Air Freight Product Country Manager, Rhenus Italia

Bringing science and logistics together to share world history

Our collaboration with Rhenus stems from the belief that only teamwork can enable paleontological artifacts to continue to tell stories far back in time.

“Bringing paleontology to the world means bringing science and logistics together.
It’s a team effort that allows everyone to continue to hear the stories of the past.”
Giorgia Bacchia, from Zoic

Next destination: the future

This operation represents a new chapter in a partnership that is destined to grow, offering museums, collectors and cultural institutions a complete solution:
restoration → assembly → packaging → international shipping.
An integrated service that focuses on safety, compliance and quality.

Paleontology is a journey through time. With partners like Rhenus, we can take it to every corner of the world.
